Color-blocked & Jack's Sandwich Shop

Hey Dolls,

I feel bad that I haven't been able to post much as of late.  I have been Super Busy!!!  That shall soon pass though and I'll be back to blogging as normal.  Here is a quick OOTD and Restaurant Review to wet you whistle a little LOL!

Oh yeah...still rocking my natural curls and coils!!!

I actually wore this outfit a couple weekends ago and forgot to post it.  The color-blocked top is actually a dress!  I like it better a top so I put my high-waist skirt on top of it.

One thing I love about summer break is the opportunity to meet up with friends for lunch!  My friend Teresa and I met up a few days ago at Jack's Sandwich Shop!
This was my second time eating at Jack's.  The first time had to be about 5 or 6 years ago.  I remember what I likes most about them.....THEIR PRICES!!! I also like the small diner atmosphere.  There's just something I enjoy about watching my food be prepared.

I had to have a cherry limeade for my drink!  Ever since getting cherry limeades at Sonic as a kid, I've always gone for it if a restaurant offered it, which has been rare.

I had the bacon cheeseburger and fries.
POSITIVES:  My meal only cost $3.90 and the burger tasted better than any McDonalds burger ever could (Which I don't eat)!!!
NOT SO GREAT:  The bread was a little stale and the fries were very bland.

My friend had the SlawDog and Fries
Positives:  The Hot Dog was only a dollar and some change.
Not so Great:  Fries were bland, bread was stale, and hot dog was "just ok".
Overall, I'd give Jack's a B-.  I think the one thing that would help them a lot is soft, fresh bread! However, the prices alone would keep me coming back.

I'm in a very  big fashion show tomorrow evening and can't wait to share pictures with you all.
So I shall be back soon...PROMISE!!!

What's Cooking w/ Trice (BBQ Chicken Flatbread)

Hey Dolls,

I've been meaning to show you all my tropical inspired outfit that I wore to a Luau-themed social last weekend.  So here goes!  I have been really trying to wear my natural hair out a lot more since its summer time.  I added a flower to my hair to make my look more tropical-esq and I just so happened to have a few leis hanging around LOL!

Here is some of the decor I was able to capture.

I didn't even get any pictures of all of the delicious food we had. Next time I'll be sure to charge my battery up completely.  It was a great evening with wonderful people and wonderful food, you can take my word for it!

Now on to the BBQ Chicken Flatbread that I made last night!!! It was quick, easy, and delicious.  I got the idea from Mrs. Ninah Bee and changed it up just a little for my liking.

Here is what you need:
Naan Bread/4 Cheese Mexican Blend/ Chicken/ BBQ Sauce/ Onion/ Oregano

DIRECTIONS:
Preheat your oven to  375 degrees.
1.) Cut up some chicken, add a little seasoning, and mix it with the BBQ Sauce. I used Rotisserie Chicken but you can cook some chicken and cut it up.  I just wanted something quick so went for the already cooked chicken.

2.) Add a little BBQ Sauce to your Naan Bread ( Indian Fire-baked leavened bread), sprinkle chopped red onion, and sprinkle on a few dashes of oregano leaves.

3.) Spread your BBQ Chicken mixture across the bread.

4.) Add your cheese blend on top. Pop it in the oven for about 10-15 minutes.

5.) Enjoy your BBQ Chicken Flatbread!

This is a delicious meal and it's probably healthier that your regular ole' pizza.  It's loaded with flavor and takes no time to make.

Have a fabulous weekend! Be back soon!

BJ's Restaurant & Brewhouse/ Summer OOTD

Hello Lovelies!!!

Today (Monday) marked the beginning of my first week off for summer! So what did I do???  Slept until 11:30am (well not really, I watched TV in bed until 11:30 lol), met my friend Bernie for lunch, and did a little browsing at the Towncenter!

Before I show you our YUMMY lunch, here is what I was wearing today!

Rocking the natural hair today!  My twist-out bangs came out lovely.  I was pleasantly surprised because for those of you who know about styling natural hair, my twist-outs usually don't look that great LOL.

Here is the entire outfit!  It's summertime so I was happy to bust out the shorts, heels, and colorful accessories!

For lunch we went to BJ's Restaurant & Brewhouse.  I ate at BJ's in  a different city a few years ago and really enjoyed the food so when it opened here in Jacksonville a few months ago I was eager to go back!
The environment and decor inside and out of the restaurant are fantastic!  It was a casual yet elegant setting with great food at great prices.
We both ordered a watermelon & feta salad for starters!
Ok....this salad...right here......was OFF THE CHAIN!

I ordered the Grilled Mahi Mahi Tacos that came with tortilla chips, avacado & spicy salsa! YUM-UM-UM!
Bernie ordered the Parmesan-Crusted Chicken Sandwich.  Instead of fries she ordered a salad like mine.
We enjoyed our lunch and the "window shopping" we did afterwards!  I have to say my summer is off to a great start!

Have a great day dolls, I will try to be back very soon!

What's Cooking With Trice?!?!?! ( Bruschetta Tilapia)

Hey Dolls!

I haven't done a "What's Cooking w/ Trice" post in a while so I think it's time for one!  Oh and guess what.... SCHOOL'S OUT FOR SUMMER!!!!  During the summer I tend to cook more because I have a little more time on my hands so I look forward to sharing more meals!  Tonight's meal is another recipe I got from the lovely Monique at Divas Can Cook!  If you haven't checked out her blog, please do because my girl can throw down!!!

I made Bruschetta Tilapia!  It's easy, delicious, and good for you!  Here is what you'll need:
Tilapia/Cherry Tomatoes/Juice From 1/2 lemon/Fresh Basil/Garlic/Red Onion/Mozzarella Cheese/Olive Oil/Seasoning/Rice

DIRECTIONS
 Preheat the oven to 350.
1.) Butter the bottom of a baking dish add your fish and squeeze the lemon juice over the fish.
2.) Season your fish to your liking.  Put the dish of fish in the refrigerator while you prepare everything else.
3.) Chop your cherry tomatoes, fresh basil, red onion, and garlic.
4.) Add the veggies to a bowl, drizzle in some olive oil, add a little salt and pepper, and mix well.  (This tastes so good all by itself!)

5.) Take the fish out of the fridge, add the veggie mixture on top of it and put the dish of fish and veggies in the oven for 20 minutes.

6.) Once the fish has cooked take it out and add your mozzarella cheese.
7.) Once you add the cheese, put it back in the oven until the cheese melts over the fish. (About 5 mins.)
8.) Once the cheese has melted, add the fish over a bed of brown rice and VOILA, dinner is served!

I enjoyed my first day of summer meal with a nice glass of white wine and it was DELICIOUS!!!
Have a great evening!
XOXO

I Love JAX Food Trucks!!! (PICTURE HEAVY)

Hey Dolls,

First off, I have to apologize for my lack of posts the last couple of weeks.  Anyone in the school system can attest to how hectic the closing of school is.  I've been too busy tearing down my classroom and turning in things that I haven't been able to update the blog.  But that shall soon end because my summer vacay starts tomorrow!!!!!

Over the weekend it STORMED but Saturday afternoon it slacked up just enough for the Jacksonville Food Truck Rally! My pin says I (HEART-JAX) Food Trucks!  CUTE right?!?  The rally was held in an effort to show how the food truck industry can be a positive force in  reclaiming and increasing pedestrian traffic in downtown Jax.  Attendees were asked to donate $1.00 as admissions that went towards Second Harvest of N. Fl, a mission that donates food and groceries in an effort to fight hunger.
When I heard about the event I knew I had to attend!!!  The food truck industry is just now starting to come around in my city so there were only about 9-10 trucks there. ( I don't know if that's a big or small number for a city)
My first stop was at the Corner Taco!

I have read a few reviews on this truck known for having "Semi-Swanky Street Food"!

The fact that they were the smallest truck with the longest line, told me that they had to be worth the wait!

My goal today was to try foods that I never have or normally wouldn't and the Ceviche Taco special was on that list until I saw "Sold Out".  The only bad thing I can say about the event is that the food sold out quick.

Quite alright because I got the Dijon Buttermilk Fried Chicken taco and it was delicious!!! It was the perfect crispiness and the flavor was just amazing.  I really liked the chili sauce on top as well.  YUM YUM!

The girls behind me in the our long wait for Corner Taco, had the tuna poke Nachos from the Super Food Truck!

This isn't the first thing your think of when you hear the word nachos is it? Well these nachos were made with Sesame-seed ginger marinated Ahi Tuna with wasabi hummus, and Kim Chi & Nori.

The girls said they were "actually delicious!"  I took their word for it!
My next stop was Monroe's BBQ on the GO!
I had to get my hands on this....

YEP!  That's right, Duck confit (pronounced cone-fee) Quesadillas!

It was absolutely delicious!  For those who are wondering what duck confit is, it is made from the leg of the duck.  The meat is then cured, then poached in its own fat.  That may not sound the greatest but it tastes great!

These quesadillas were selling quite a bit, along with the BBQ sliders at Monroe's!

Next and final stop was "On the Fly"!

By the time I got here, food was selling out quickly.  There were so many people that the wait at each truck was an hour at the least.  All that was left at On the Fly was the Marinated Chicken Soft Tacos and  Firecracker Ahi Tuna Tar Tar.

I'm not ready for anything tar-tar (raw) so I went for the chicken taco and took a picture of the guy in front of me tuna tar tar.  The chicken taco had an amazing flavor!  It came with caramelized onions, lettuce, tomatoes, and some special sauce! YUM!!!

Here are the other trucks I didn't get to go to.  I will try to keep up with them over the summer and try the foods they have to offer.
Mother Fletcher's

Mom's Ice Cream

Sprockets
Driftwood BBQ
Gourmet Aviator

Mike B's
I had a great time!  I think food trucks are amazing.  You get a great variety of gourmet and comfort food at super low prices.  I look forward to seeing what more they have to offer and if they will indeed help make a positive impact on the re-growth of the downtown culture.
I'll be back soon!  Have a great day!

~Trice
