Hey Dolls,


I pray everyone had a beautiful Christmas with the ones you love!  This time of year came around so quickly!  I feel like 2014 was almost a blur but I am ready to jump into the New Year!  It's always exciting to discover the joys and blessings a new year has in store for you.  Here is a look at what I wore for Christmas!

Christmas Look

I was recently invited to a private lunch at a new restaurant in Mandarin called Cabana Grill!  Before attending, I read up on the history of the restaurant and found a few pleasant surprises which had me very excited about lunch!  For starters, Cabana Grill was created by the San Antonio based restaurant, Taco Cabana!  As some of you already know, I'm from San Antonio and Taco Cabana was the number one spot to go to after high school football games!  Oh the memories!  I also learned that Cabana Grill is under the restaurant group that also operates and franchises Pollo Tropical!  I love me some Pollo Tropical!!!  With those two facts in mind, I knew lunch was going to be delicious!
Cabana Grill has fast-casual dining.  You can enjoy your meal indoors, out on the patio, take it to go, and even drive-thru!  Something I really love is when you can see your meal prepared.  All of their ingredients are prepared fresh daily, including the amazing tortillas that are made to order.  Quick story...when I was in high school my friends thought I was "weird" because I would order 3 plain tortillas in the drive-thru at Taco Cabana. LOL!  
They are good enough to eat alone!
The Salsa Bar features three signature salsas that are handmade with fresh ingredients, daily. They are the Chipotle Lime, Salsa Crema, and Avacado Cilantro.  All three salsas complement any dish you may order!
Another feature I enjoyed about Cabana Grill was the artwork!  I found out that all of the decor came from Mexico, including this cool picture below which was taken by a photographer sent down to Mexico to capture its essence just for Cabana Grill.  
Makes for great ambiance!!!
Ok, so the food was just as amazing as I imagined it would be. Here's what we had... 
This taco plate came with a steak and chicken taco, Mexican rice, and refried beans.
Steak Fajita Bowl served in a hard tortilla with delicious grilled steak!
My favorites were the chicken fajitas and street tacos!  The flavors are really amazing!  You really get that grilled taste and you can truly taste the freshness of the veggies!  They also serve authentic beverages including Mexican Fanta and Mexican Coke with real cane sugar, margaritas made with fresh-squeezed lime juice, and a selection of cold domestic and Mexican beers. 

Last  but not least is my all time favorite Mexican dessert, sopapillas!!!  The first time I had a sopapilla was when I took a trip to Santa Fe, New Mexico when I was 18.  I've been a fan ever since.  These things can cause detriment to your waistline, if you're not careful! They little fried pastries, similar to doughnuts, that you dip in either honey or dulce de leche!  AMAZEBALLS!

I'm definitely a fan of Cabana Grill!  The food was fresh and delicious and everyone that worked there were friendly and knowledgeable!  I'm particularly excited because I feel like I'm getting a little taste of home!  If you're looking for somewhere quick to dine and are in the Mandarin area, hit up Cabana Grill!  You won't be disappointed.

Hi Dolls,

When I first laid my eyes on this sweater I immediately fell in love!  I'm not sure if it was the sparkles, the fact that it has a huge gold heart on it, or maybe even both, but I know I just had to have it! (Confessions of a shopaholic)
 I paired it with a bleached denim shirt and some jeans for a Christmas luncheon I attended earlier this week. The luncheon was Friday after school and on Fridays we can wear jeans to work so this worked out perfectly!
We went to Biscottis located in the awesome, historical Five Points district in Jacksonville.  
The area was decorated so nicely for the holidays so after lunch one of my friends and I decided to take a stroll around the area to snap a few pictures!  Take a look!

This local toy store really put me in the mood for some Christmas shopping! The entire area really.  There are so many unique boutiques where I could find some one of a kind gifts for my loved ones!
I'm sure this area is really beautiful at night when the lights are on!  I may need to make a trip just to see the lights!

  It was an absolutely gorgeous winter-like day in Jax Florida!  Not too hot and of course, not too cold!  Just the right amount of chill for me to wear my new favorite sweater.

It's Beginning To Look Alot Like Christmas!

I had the pleasure of attending a blogger event at Tinsel Town's latest taco spot, Papi Chulo's!  I love these types of events because I get to try an array of menu items and this night did not disappoint!
Of course you can't get the night started off right without a good cocktail so my friend, Nate ordered a watermelon martini and I had the "RICK JAMES _____"! 
 (I always want to finish his with that famous yet inappropriate innuendo but as always, I'll keep it classy!)  The Rick James was pretty good!  It was like a peach flavored frozen margarita.  Very good!
Per usual, I knew we were in for a treat of several courses so instead of gorging on every item as if it were my last meal, I decided I would take little nibbles so that I could enjoy everything that was getting ready to come my way....(YEAH RIGHT!)
For starters we had the Guacamole and Ceviche Flights.  They included a sampling of all three types of their Ceviche: Papi's Ceviche, Mango & Mahi Ceviche, and my fav, Shrimp & Avacado Ceviche.  
However, the hit of this course was the Guacamole Flight which included their Fresh Guacamole (original), Carribean Gaucamole, and everyone's fav, the New England Guacamole which was filled with lump crab meat and roasted corn!  My BF came with me and ate up all of the servings of New England Guac'!  It was amazing!
Next up was a real treat, the Mexican Street Corn!
You get a whole ear of grilled corn, dipped in a garlicky lime Mexican mayo and sprinkled with cotija cheese and chili powder.  I didn't think I'd like it but I LOVED IT!
Chicken Flautas were next!
One thing I can say about Papi chulos is that they season their food to perfection!  Every thing was very flavorful!  These chicken flautas were delicious!  The shredded chicken was flavored with guajillo and the flautas were made with flour tortillas!  YUMMM!!!

Now Papi Chulos is known for their tacos so naturally, we got to try some of their specialty tacos!
Taco 1:  Taco Loco
This taco came with shredded guajillo chicken, napa cabbage slaw, pickled red onions (YUM), roasted serrano peppers, cilantro, and cotija cheese! I don't know what it is about Guajillo, but I think I'm in love! 
Taco 2:  Steak Fajita Taco:
This taco was made with marinated skirt steak, thickly sliced and sauteed red onion and peppers, with queso sauce!  I mean come on, of course it was good!  Fajita indeed!
Taco 3:  Duck Dynasty Taco:
This taco was made with roasted duck, napa cabbage slaw, pickled red onion, cotija cheese, and a pineapple slaw.  I'm not the biggest duck fan because it's a bit too fatty for my liking but this taco wasn't bad at all!  It had great flavor!
Taco 4:  Bang Shrimp Taco:
This was my favorite taco!!!  It was made with fried shrimp, napa cabbage slaw, sweet chili crema, black sesame seeds, and chopped scallions!  I could've eaten like 5 more and been good!!!
Taco 5:  Bob Marley Taco:
This taco was pretty fancy!  It was made with jerk chicken, mango salsa, black beans cooked in pork fat, napa cabbage slaw, and a nice sliver of fried plantain on top!  It wasn't bad but it had a lot, maybe too much, going on for me!
By this time all of our bellies were telling us to stop filling them but who can resist the Tres Leches Cake we were given for dessert!!!  It was incredibly moist and you could taste that home made flavor!  It was iced with whipped cream and lime zest!  It was great!

Overall, I was very pleased with Papi Chulos.  They have a large menu with a plethora of choices and I was most impressed with how nicely seasoned everything was.  With that being said, you probably won't go wrong with anything you order.  I am definitely going to be visiting again for more chicken flautas, bang shrimp tacos, and Rick James of course!  This would be the perfect spot to stop in before or after a movie at Tinseltown!!!

Sunday's Best: Thanksgiving

Hey Dolls,


I pray that all of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday with your loved ones!  I certainly did!  I'm thankful for life, health, strength, family, favor and love. I recently attended a tasting at a Peruvian restaurant near the beaches called Ceviche Jax.  To be honest, I don't think I would've ever found this place on my own had it not been for the invite.  It is definitely a diamond in the rough.  Long story short, I'm glad I was invited!  
Their ceviche is the best I've tried in town!
The restaurant isn't very big which makes it a perfect choice for an intimate meet up.  I love the simplistic yet contemporary decor.   All blue bottles and black and white table cloths are so chic together!  I could see me trying something similar at home....hmmm

As I mentioned earlier, I went for a tasting and that is exactly what it was a "tasting"!  We got a very small sampling of some of their dishes.  Though the portions were miniscule,  they were all so delicious, I can hardly wait to go back for more!
So here is what we had...
Fried Peruvian Corn:  Well...this is exactly what it says, fried corn.  Interesting but my least favorite for the evening.  I felt as though I was munching on popcorn kernels.

Papa a la Huancaina:  Peruvian salad of boiled potatoes covered in a yellow creamy sauce and fresh cheese and Peruvian spices. I liked this.
Leche de Tigre:   In the shot glass is the by-product of the ceviche preparation.  It consisted of concentrated lime juice, pieces of fish and shrimp, and Peruvian spices. It was tangy, savory, and very good!
Causa De Atun:  This was a very interesting dish!  It consisted of a yellow potato cake stuffed with tuna salad and seasoned with yellow Peruvian pepper & lemon. The pink sauce was a chef's secret.  Not bad.
El Macho:  This was my favorite of the evening. A perfectly seasoned filet of Sea Bass topped with a creamy Peruvian sauce, fresh calamari,  and succulent shrimp.  It was served with white rice. I could've had a barrel of this and been a happy camper!
Arroz Chaufa de Pollo:  This was a delicious fusion dish  and something I plan to recreate at home.  It was Chinese inspired fried rice made with onions, egg, tortilla, sausage, green onion, soy sauce, and house sauce. 
Lomo Saltado:  This was my second favorite of the evening.  Another fusion dish of Peruvian and Chinese-Cantonese flavors.  It was moist and tender pieces of skirt steak topped with red onion and soy sauce.  It reminded me of a steak and pomme frites dish since it was served with fries.  Delicious nevertheless.

Last but not least was the Chef's dessert of the day.  
It was a coffee flavored custard sprinkled with cinnamon and served in a chilled glass.  It was a nice end to a great sampling.

I really enjoyed my first experience at Ceviche Jax.  The food was amazing and the company I was with (Nom Nom club) was amazing, as always!  Dining in a great atmosphere always adds to the experience as well!  I love that Ceviche Jax is clearly passionate about preparing authentic Peruvian cuisine.  The unique flavors were ever present.    If you're ever in the mood to try something different and are near the beach, I recommend Ceviche Jax.  
You won't be disappointed.
