Bentos Cafe (Blue)

Hey Lovelies,

My dear friend Krystle LOVES LOVES LOVES sushi.  Every single time the choice is hers as to where we should go to eat, her response is "I could eat sushi!".  With that being said, the last time she was here to visit, I mentioned Bento Cafe for some sushi and Pan-Asian cuisine.
Bento means "boxed-meal" in Japanese which is exactly what they serve here, authentic Asian cuisine that's fast, and cooked to order.   Great alternative for your typical fast foods!  Interestingly enough, each Bento restaurant is decorated in either blue or red dragons.  We went to the Bento Blue because at the time this was the only one in town.  However, the Bento Red opened this week so I will certainly make a trip there soon.

Here's what we had to eat:

Dynamite #2 Sushi Roll:  This roll was tempura fried with crab, shrimp, avacado, cucumber, masago, and spicy sauce.  It was just O.K. to me.  In fact I was a little disappointed in the lack of flavor and the fact that I had to pay extra for the shrimp sauce to dip it in.

Strawberry Boba Tea:  This was my first time trying Boba Tea and it wasn't bad at all once I got use to the tapioca pearls at the bottom.  There were so many, it became overwhelming but the drink itself was good and refreshing.  It reminded me of a milk shake!

Bulgogi Chicken:  This was my dish.  It was a bento box which came with the delicious and mildly spicy chicken with green onions, rice, and salad.  I really enjoyed this dish!

Chicken Udon Stir Fry Noodles:  This was Krystle's noodle bowl.  She said the ginger-scallion flavors were pretty good.  Her only complaint was the thickness of the noodles.

Overall, we enjoyed our dining experience at Bento "Blue" and would certainly return.  I'm looking forward to visiting the new Bento "Red" location in the near future!

As always, thanks so much for stopping by!
Be back soon!

I pray that everyone had a wonderful Easter weekend? What do you love most about the spring/summer???  I love winter because I think layering is fun but I absolutely adore spring and summer because of all of the bright and bold colors that come along with it!
Here's what I wore last Sunday.
I was madly throwing everything out of my closet for something I felt would be fitting for spring because you know us ladies never have anything to wear and I successfully put this ensemble together!

What's Cooking With Trice: Healthy Options

Hi Dolls,

I was in the mood to cook dinner the other night and per usual, I was hungry "NOW" and wanted to make something that wouldn't take long.  I had recently been over to Major Must Haves blog and saw this recipe and it had been on my mind to try so I did and it was simply amazing!  She has amazing style and can cook too!  My type of blogger.  Check her blog out here.

I'm not even sure what to call this recipe but
here's what you need:
(This recipe calls for spinach as well but I didn't have any on hand)
 photo 0b28c21e-13c8-4107-bf14-cb14c3767602_zps096c6ef9.jpg
1.) Cut up your veggies, season, and saute.  Remove the veggies from the skillet and set aside.
 photo DSC_0112_zpscd7e75a4.jpg
2.) In the same skillet, brown the ground turkey then add veggies back into the pan and mix well.
 photo DSC_0121_zps8fd39d79.jpg

3.)  Add cheese to the mixture, let the cheese melt then serve.
 photo DSC_0130_zps2b028691.jpg
I served it over brown rice and quinoa that night but for left overs yesterday, I stuffed the mixture into a whole wheat tortilla and had a very flavorful turkey taco!  Thanks so much for sharing Major Must Haves!  This is a delicious combination of flavors!

Thanks for stopping by and if you decide to try it let me know!
Take care!

Cheerful Giving

Hi Lovelies,
"It is more blessed to give than to receive"
- (Acts 20:35)
"  Personal greatness and service to others is intertwined"
-Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
"The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others."
- Mahatma Ghandi
Do you agree that it's better to give than to receive?  During church last Sunday, pastor preached on the "cheerful giver".  He mentioned that when we give, it should happen willingly because a giver who gives grudgingly is missing the value of the act and in essence wasting their time.

 photo DSC_0105_zps2366ac77.jpg
Of, course showering others with gifts is always fun but giving doesn't have to mean money and monetary gifts, but giving of time and talents as well.  There's volunteering and community service, spending time with family and friends, being available to listen to a friend during their time of need...playing fetch with your dog LOL!

Giving to others makes me happy.  I like making others smile even if it's with a simple hello to a stranger, phone call to a friend, or donations to GoodWill.
How do you enjoy giving?

Have a great day and as always thanks for stopping by!

JAX Loves Food Trucks!!!!

Hey Lovelies,

Over the last 3-4 years, there has been a major food truck CRAZE in Jacksonville!  The industry is growing more and more each year which makes people like me very happy campers.  There is just something special about food you can get out of a decorated little truck I can't quite put my finger on.  Perhaps it's just having the option to try something unique, quick and yummy besides your normal fast food.  Anywho, last month I attended a few food truck events with friends and boy was everything delicious!

The March of Food Trucks was held in Tinseltown and parts of the proceeds went to March of Dimes.  Eating good food with friends, listening to live music, all while contributing to the lifesaving research of babies was a great way for me to spend my Saturday!
 photo whatsthecatch_zps0e5bf753.jpg
What's The Catch
This is one of the "shiny" new trucks in town serving fish, shrimp, and chicken tacos!
  • Baja Beach Taco:  Delicious blackened grouper with black bean & corn salsa and special sauce! This was my fav!
  • Blue Lava Shrimp Wrap:  Fried Shrimp in volcano sauce and celery.  It was good but I preferred the baja beach taco.
While there, we had a brief conversation with Glen and he recommended the chicken salad wrap (The Island Bird).  He gave a sample of the chicken salad and it was very tasty!  Seasoned nicely and not too heavy.  Something I'll definitely try next time around.  Overall, What's The Catch was pretty good!

Mama's Food
 photo mamasfood_zps7a88f2d4.jpg
Mama's Food on Urbanspoon
Mama's Argentinian Food was some of the best food I tasted at the rally.  My friends got the beef empanadas that were so incredibly flavorful but the Seafood Bowl (seafood nachos w/shrimp and scallops)........OH MY GOODNESS, so GOOD!  Mama's Food gets an A++ in my book!

Kona Ice
 photo kona_zpsee95f5bc.jpg
Kona Ice of SE Jax on Urbanspoon
Kona Ice reminded me of summers at my grandmas in Louisiana during my childhood!  Shaved ice cups were very big back then and it was nice to cool down with these!  The owner of the truck recommended a drink that her and her husband came up with  called the "Dude & Babe".  It was made with strawberry champagne and mango and it was deliciously refreshing.  My friend had watermelon and strawberry which she said was very good as well.

      Up In Smoke BBQ
 photo upinsmoke_zps39ef2dc6.jpg
Up In Smoke BBQ on Urbanspoon
I have heard nothing but great things about Up In Smoke so one of my friends decided to get the pulled pork sandwich with seasoned fries.  She said she was impressed with the amount of pork that was on the sandwich.  She said it was very flavorful and definitely worth the money.

Front Porch Kettle Corn
 photo kettlecorn_zps3a14bf9b.jpg
I love the sweet and salty flavors I get from eating kettle corn so it was only right that I got some to go!  I got the original and the caramel kettle corn and my man ate all of the caramel corn before we made it out of the parking lot. They were both really good.

A few weeks after the March of the Food Trucks, was another Food Truck event at The Best Bet Race Track in Orange Park.  There were two trucks in particular that I had been itching to try so I made the trip and it was well worth it.

Fusion Food Truck
Grannies Chicken
 photo bestbetfoodtrucks_zps41d18a6c.jpg
Fusion Food Truck on Urbanspoon
Fusion Food Truck is exactly what the name says, a fusion of flavors!  Indian, Thai, and Mediterranean to be  exact.  I decided to try the Chicken Tikka Masala which was delicious.  The flavors were so pronounced which is why I loved it so much!  I could definitely taste the coconut and spices.  Next time I visit Fusion, I definitely have to try the meat samosas!

Grannie's Chicken on Urbanspoon
Grannies Chicken was on my list of trucks to try because come on...who doesn't love fried chicken?!?!?  I decided to go with the fried gizzards and seasoned fries.  The batter was delicious but I guess I'm a glutton for punishment because I was chewing for days with those gizzards which was expected. LOL!  I'm definitely going to go back for the chicken sandwich.

Whew! That was a lot but it just goes to show that food trucks are on the rise here in JAX and I'm excited for what's to come.

As always, thank you for stopping by!

Be back soon.

The weather is finally starting to come around!  For a while it was cold...then hot........then freezing.  This morning the weather was in the 50s so I decided to put on one of my favorite sweaters!  The colors are so bright and bold, they remind me of crayons. Some of my students made sure to inform me of how "too bright" my outfit was today.... perfect for school!  Anything to keep the little darlings awake! ;)

Taste Food Studio

Hey Dolls,

When I received an invite from Gary of Jax Restaurant Reviews to attend a blogger event at Taste Food Studio, I was thrilled because I have heard so many things about Taste and have been wanting to try them.  Of course, I jumped at the opportunity and dragged my friend Bernie along with me for what turned out to be a gluttons paradise!
 photo taste1_zps878d76c2.jpg
For starters, cocktails were served!  Bernie played it safe and got the Strawberry Shortcake Martini which was phenomenal.  Sweet but phenomenal at best!  In an attempt to "try something different"  I got the pickle martini which I thought was suppose to be a twist to the classic dirty martini but ended up being pickle juice and vodka. Eeeek!!!  As much as I tried to like....I just couldn't but if you LOVE pickle juice, this is the cocktail for you!
  photo taste2_zps76e3ff7e.jpg
We knew going in that we were going to be trying several of their menu items but my goodness, we didn't realize how many!!!
In no particular order, here is what we had:
1.) Crabcake w/Mango:  This was an amazing starter because I love a crab cake that's mostly crab and the mango chutney was a perfect addition.
2.) Shrimp and Scallops:  This was my second favorite dish of the night!  Jumbo tiger shrimp, jumbo sea scallops cooked to perfection, red pepper and sun dried tomato garlic butter sauce, and parmesan crostini to sop it up with......HEAVEN!
3.) Pork Belly Taco:  This was pretty tasty.  The pork belly was braised in teriyaki and served with asian slaw.  Hog Heaven!
 photo 86fc13c2-a165-4320-a041-ee03988d1d0c_zps97ab6e1d.jpg

4.)  Flatbread:  We had a multitude of different flatbreads including margherita, pepperoni, honey mustard hawaiian, grilled chicken, mango and bacon (Kona).  They were all delicious!

5.) Filet Grilled Medallions:  Grilled filet covered in gorgonzola fondue, truffle frites, and micro greens.  I thought they were amazing.
6.) Shrimp and Grits:  This was just okay to me but I may be biased towards creamy grits.  This shrimp dish came with cheddar grit cakes, anduoille sausage, and a tomato based Creole sauce.
7.) Tasty Meatballs:  THIS WAS MY FAVORITE (hence the bigger picture)!!! I loved everything about this dish!  The puff pastry, the "tasty" meatball, the marinara sauce!  Pure genius for the chef to come up with such a dish!
8.) Grilled Lamb:  By the time the lamb came out, I was stuffed beyond capacity.  The presentation was beautiful but that is about all I can say about it.  It was served medium with truffle mashed potatoes, and a balsamic reduction.
Taste Food Studio on Urbanspoon

I enjoyed my experience at Taste Food Studio.  The ambiance is very upbeat and contemporary.  Perfect for the live music and social events they have throughout the week.  I am certainly going to be back for a comedy show, Wine-Down Wednesdays and Tasty Meatballs!!!

As always, thanks for stopping by!
Be back soon!

What have you learned today?

Hey Beauties,

 photo DSC_0050_zps5a5757dd.jpg

This is going to be a really quick  post with a few words of encouragement!  Although things may get trying sometimes and life may seem unfair at times, remember everything that is for you is for you only, good, not so good, and indifferent.  I've learned to look at every trial as a learning tool.  Ways to get better!  I challenge myself to learn something new (new to me) daily.  It's actually pretty fun to do!  Live life with no regrets and open your minds to new adventures and concepts! Have a wonderful week dolls and if you're reading this today, leave a comment letting me know what you learned today that you never knew before.  I'd love to hear!  I'll start:  Today I learned that McDonald's is giving away free coffee until April 13th...WHAT WHAT!!!  I like free!!!
