The Comedy Zone (Jacksonville)

Hey Dolls.

When my friends and I are looking for something fun to do on a whim, we can always count on The Comedy Zone to have great entertainment lined up for the evening!   They are always sure to have some of our favorite A-list comedians on schedule at a great price and last Friday night, didn't disappoint!
I received an invite to come enjoy some of what the Comedy Zone had to offer and my friends and I were seated in VIP which gave us a perfect view of the stage.  However, I've been to The Comedy Zone several times and there really isn't a bad seat in the house!
As always, a new comer warms the crowd up before the headliner comes to the stage and this young lady (who's name I don't remember) was hilarious!  She gave us lots of laughs!
But the comedian we came to see was funny man, Mark Curry!  I remember him mostly from the show "Hanging With Mr. Cooper".  It was one of my favs growing up! I hope I'm not dating myself!
He definitely still has a knack for comedy!
He had us in stitches the entire show!
He even had crowd participation which was seriously the highlight of the evening!

After all these years, he's still got it!

One thing I can say about The Comedy Zone through my experiences over the years, is that the waiters are very attentive!  They make sure your drinks stay flowing and that you've got everything you need to enjoy your evening.  Though we didn't get any food this time around, I know that the snack options are perfect for the occasion.
After the show ended, the comedian always greets his fans out front for pictures and autographs!  I've always thought that was pretty cool.  Click here to see what funny man I took a picture with a while back when I visited the Comedy Zone with my parents!  This particular night, the line was too long by the time I got out front so I took a picture of him with some of his admirers.
Overall, we had a wonderful evening!  Like I mentioned before, The Comedy Zone always has great comedians on schedule!  Some hot hitters coming soon to Jax include: Jeff Dye, Don D.C. Curry, Bill Bellamy, and John Witherspoon to name a few but we'll definitely be making a trip back in the fall to see my absolute favorite comedian, Arnez J!!!  That guy is beyond hilarious!  For the full schedule of show times and comedians please go to Comedy Zone website, here.

As always, thanks for stopping by!

Skirt Love

Hey Dolls,

I don't know what it is but I have this new found love for skirts!  I can remember a time when all I wanted to wear was pants but skirts, dresses, and the all around feminine look is what I've been gravitating towards lately.  Funny how your taste in different things change with maturity.  When I first saw this skirt, I knew I had to have it!  It has stripes which I love and the minty blue colored flowers which I love as well!  I got this a few months back and I finally got around to wearing it!  I look forward to getting plenty of wear out of it!

What's Cooking With Trice: Orange Ginger Chicken

Hey Lovelies,

As some of you may know I've been making the most of this summer break and have been on the go!  This past week I was able to recoup and spent the majority of the week at home.  This afforded me the opportunity to do a little cooking for myself.  I love good take out and one of my favorites is orange chicken which usually comes fried!   So I decided to make my own, non-fried version in an attempt to preserve my girlish figure *wink-wink*!

1 Small Yellow Onion (sliced)
3 cloves of garlic (chopped)
2 green onions (chopped)
Small piece of ginger (grated)
1 cup Top Note Tonic Bitter Orange
1/2 cup Chicken Broth
3 Boneless, skinless chicken thighs (sliced)
2 TSP Honey
Red Pepper Flakes (pinch)
In a large skillet, heat up 3 tablespoons of olive oil and saute onions, garlic, and ginger.

Once the onions begin to brown and the ginger and garlic become fragrant, add seasoned chicken and mix around to brown.
For a little kick add a few red pepper flakes.
It is starting to smell amazing!  Mix everything together well!
I was given this awesomeness in a bottle about a month ago and I am so happy I was able to use it in this dish.  It's Top Note Tonics in the Bitter Orange flavor which was perfect for my orange chicken!  Top Note Tonics is a company based out of Milwaukee who specialize in premium bitter soda concentrates (with inspiration from Italian sodas).  They are dedicated to using natural ingredients with no preservatives and high quality herbs and spices that allow them to create interesting flavors with complexity and balance.  Some other flavors include Bitter Lemon and Gentian Tonic which has lime and ginger.  What I like most about these tonics is that you can use them in cocktails and cook with them!!!
I added a cup to my dish!

  Add a little honey.
 Add chicken broth.
Let the magic happen.  Make sure to stir constantly to combine all of the yummy flavors.
Once the dish starts to thicken, add green onions!  I love green onions!  Not only do they taste good but they serve as garnish as well!
Serve over a bed of rice and enjoy!  This dish was done in no time and it was full of flavor so I definitely see it being a part of my dinner rotation once school is back in session!  The bitter orange tonic was perfect for giving my chicken its orange flavor which went quite nicely with the flavor of the grated ginger!  You dolls should definitely give this recipe a shot!  If you do, I'd love to hear about it.
As always, thanks so much for stopping by!

Kitchen on San Marco

Hey Dolls,

We've got a lot of catching up to do!  I have been on the go like crazy and have been eating at a lot of cool places so I have a lot to share with you!  A little while back I attended a dinner outing with some foodie friends at the new hip restaurant/bar downtown called the
Kitchen on San Marco.  I'd have to say they have a perfect corner location that you can't miss!  I also love that they have a garden in the front of their restaurant!

When I get with my "Nom Nom" crew, we're always sure to have drinks flowing and lots of laughs and this particular night didn't disappoint!  The night started off with three different beers.  I'm not much of a beer drinker so I couldn't even tell you what they were but I can say that it didn't last long with this crowd!
I went for a Moscow Mule instead which has recently become of favorite of mine!  It's made with a Russian standard vodka, lime simple syrup, and ginger beer.  It's delicious!  My friend Martha got this really interesting looking blue-purple drink called the Bluecumber which is made with blueberry vodka and creme de violette! FANCY!
After taking a peek at the event menu, I instantly knew our tastebuds were in for a treat!  So without further suspense, here's what we had!

House Bacon Trio
I mean come on!  Who isn't crazy about bacon?!?!?  Then to have it three ways!!!!  Smoked, whipped (YES WHIPPED), and candied!
Look how thick these slices of bacon are!
K.C. was caught in mid bite LOL!
Welllll..ok ok so we posed with the bacon but it was so good I think everyone would've been satisfied with just bacon for the night!
Bone Marrow Two Ways
So I knew bone marrow was on the menu and yes I consider myself a foodie but there are some things I just don't think I can stomach.  I, however, was willing to give this a shot.  I mean the only time I've eaten bone marrow was by accident when going in on some chicken wings and getting a little carried away trying to clean the bone but I digress....

This was Foie Gras Brulee and Chimichurri Roast Bone Marrow.
I thought it was beautifully prepared but I can assure you that I will not ever order it off a menu.  Let's move on.

Gatropub Slider & Fried Chicken
This slider was pretty tasty.  It was made with Cox Family Farms dry aged ground beef, Florida white cheddar, heirloom tomatoes, pickled ramp benne seed fried okra, and a French Pantry bun.  The fried chicken was interestingly prepared.  48 hour cure/8 hour confit with Anson Mill Seasoned Flour and buttermilk.  It was all served with a southern green kimchi.  The slider was probably my second favorite of the night after the bacon!
Bouillabaisse San Marco
This was made with Florida white shrimp, cedar key clams, and Anson mill grits.  This was the dish I looked forward to the most but unfortunately it was the dish that let me down the most.  It would've been wonderful but it lacked seasoning big time so I didn't enjoy it at all.
Ricotta Fritter
This beauty was a fried ricotta ball in a Florida Citrus jam and it was so yummy!  I loved the fact that it was in a fancy dessert glass!
Ok so maybe this was my favorite of the evening.  One of the members of our party was given this dish and insisted we all grab a spoon and dig in.  With a group of foodies, the blondie didn't stand a chance.  It was literally gone in 60 seconds!  It was full of pecans, my fav, and sooooo good!

Overall, I enjoyed my trip to KOSM!  I'm planning to return for a not so adventurous dinner.  Besides, the blondie was enough for me to want to return.  Try them, you wont be disappointed!

As always, thanks for stopping by!
