Season's 52 Spring Menu

Hi Lovelies,

Earlier this week I attended a Spring Menu tasting at Season's 52 with my girl, Krystle and let me start by saying. I love when restaurants switch up their menus with the seasons.  Change is good and this spring menu did not disappoint!
For starters we mingled with other guests while enjoying a few cocktails and Venezuelan wines.
My favorite cocktail of the hour was this Strawberry and Basil martini!
The Strawberry Basil martini and the Meyers Lemonade paired beautifully with the flatbread course.
The Lobster & Fresh Mozzarella Flatbread was my favorite of the two.  It had succulent pieces of lobster, roasted sweet peppers, slivered scallions, and lobster sour cream, embedded within melty mozzarella.  The star of this dish was the lemon zest sprinkled on top.  It paired perfectly with the Meyer's Lemonade.
Champagne paired wonderfully with the Crispy Procuitto Flatbread made with camembert cheese and topped with chervil.  I particularly enjoyed the crunch from the asparagus.
During this time we also had the opportunity to meet Chef Buckner who assured us we were in for a treat.  For the Chef's dinner, we'd be enjoying 6 courses of amazing dishes made with the freshest ingredients, paired with some of the best wines in house.
For starters we had the Chef's Spring Amuse Bouche which was an incredible bite consisting of grilled salmon, seasoned to perfection in a roasted tomato sauce.  It was the ideal amuse because it prepared the palette and definitely had us eager for the next course. It paired beautifully with Aveleda Vinho Verder, Portugal '14.

Our second course was a beautiful Spinach Salad with juicy strawberries, pea tendrils, toasted pine nuts, gorgonzola, and a delicious 15 year aged balsamic drizzle.  If I had to describe Spring as a salad, this would be it.  It paired nicely with Tilia Torrontes Salta, '14/'15.
For our third course we had Caramelized Grilled Sea Scallops with Lemon Risotto.  The scallops were cooked perfectly and the risotto was creamy with sweet peas and red peppers in every bite.  This dish was nicely paired with Mer Soleil, Central Coast '13/'14.
The fourth course was one of my favorites of the evening and a must try menu item.  It is perfect for spring!  It was the
Meyer Lemon Ricotta Ravioli.  It was cooked in a brown butter sauce so it had a slight crisp and was topped with roasted red peppers and English peas.  It was absolutely delectable and paired beautifully with Sinskey Carneros '12.
The fifth course was my favorite dish of the evening!  It was the Asian Glazed Chilean Sea Bass with organic black rice, snow peas, and shitake mushrooms.  The fish was so tender and flaky, the black rice was like none I've ever tasted, and the Asian glaze was divine, taking the dish over the top.  This course paired nicely with Selbach-Oster, Mosel '14.
Kystle had the Wood-Grilled Rack of Lamb with spring vegetables, Yulkon gold mash potatoes, and shallot jus.  The meat was well seasoned and tender and the veggies were a nice compliment.  This dish was paired with my favorite wine of the evening.  It was a South African red wine called De Toren Fusion V., Stellenbosch '12/'13.  It had woody undertones and I have to say was one of the best red wines I've ever had the pleasure of tasting.
As if we weren't already stuffed to capacity, we had to make room for the final course!  We got the mini indulgence desserts sampler!  Needless to say we cleaned these little bad boys out, completely! Every last one!  They were all delicious but of the 7, my favorites were the pecan pie, amaretto cake, and key lime pie.

I've been to Season's 52 a few times prior to this evening and have enjoyed each visit  but I must admit this was by far my favorite experience!  Season's 52 is known for keeping their dishes under 500 calories but I think I exceeded that limit this evening, happily.  Their new Spring menu is outstanding!  Everything we tasted was delicious.  The service was impeccable and it was just a wonderful evening all around!
Thanks so much for stopping by and please check out the new Spring menu at Season's 52, you'll be glad you did!

De Real Ting!

Hi Dolls,

A friend of mine invited me out to the new Wine-Down Wednesdays at De Real Ting Cafe located in the Urbancore district of downtown Jax.  I had never dined in at De Real Ting so I was eager to make my way downtown for a new experience!
Wine Down Wednesdays at De Real Ting began in February and every Wednesday from 5pm-close you get 1/2 off select glasses and bottles of wine, complimentary hors d'oeuvres, all while listening to the smooth sounds from local bands.  This particular night there was a representative from Myx Moscato, doing free wine tastings.  This is the new drink released by Nicki Minaj and there are several different flavors including peach, mango, and coconut.  I liked the mango moscato the best but overall, I'd have to say these were on the same level as wine coolers.  Nothing too special.
De Real Ting specializes in authentic Caribbean cuisine and they did not disappoint.  They had all of your Jamaican favorites.  There were so many enticing menu items to choose from.
Conch Fritters:  I'm not a fan of conch but my friend who got these said they were amazing and just by looking at them, I would agree.  They looked almost good enough for me to try but I exercised restraint.
Coconut Shrimp:  These are part of the complimentary
hors d' oeuvres. They were nice and crispy with the hint of sweetness from the coconut.  It was just a taste and had me wanting more.  They definitely prepared your palette.
Jerk Chicken Wings:  These were nicely seasoned with just the right amount of heat and a slight crunch.  They weren't too spicy and they weren't too mild.  They were just right and had you licking all of your fingers.
Oxtails:  This was my dish.  Though it was good and tender, it definitely was not the best oxtails I've had in town.  I thought the dish could have used more seasoning which was a disappointment because that's what you most look forward to with oxtails.  For the price I was also expecting there to be more meat but I only had a few pieces hidden underneath the gravy and veggies.  Other than that, it was O.K..  The plantains it came with were nice and sweet and the beans,  rice, and cabbage went well together as they traditionally do with this dish.
Curried Goat:  My friend who got this couldn't say enough great things about the dish.  She said it was seasoned to perfection and had the perfect amount of heat.  I love curry so the next time I visit, this is on my list of things to try.
Peanut Butter Cheesecake:  The chef was kind enough to treat our table to this peanut-buttery dessert!  For any peanut butter lover, this would've been the treat for you!  It was packed with sweet peanut butter cheesecake filling on an oreo crust, garnished with cream, an oreo, and peanut butter chips.

Overall, the evening was awesome!  The live music was phenomenal, the food was good, and the service was accommodating.  I look forward to returning as they have so many other items on their menu I would love to try.  If you are in the area for lunch. they have a buffet from what I hear would be worth your while and a nice change from your average lunch options.
As always, thanks so much for stopping by and if you're not busy Wednesday night, stop in for De Real Ting's Wine Down Wednesday, you'll be glad you did.

Fabulous Tulle Skirt! Gone With the Wind Fabulous!

Hey Dolls,

What does one do when in a fabulous skirt?!?!?  Twirl, twirl, twirl!  I guess I can say I now understand what Kenya meant when she said she was "Gone with the wind fabulous" because that is exactly how I felt when I wore this skirt!
Last Saturday was absolutely gorgeous here in sunny Florida and I couldn't let the day pass me by with out getting out into the elements.
My friend/fashion photographer, Veronica and I ventured out to the historic 5-points district of Jax and discovered some gems, like this alleyway!
It was the perfect background for my twirl session!
Seriously, this skirt made me want to twirl like a little school girl!
 So twirl I did!
This fabulous graffiti wall across from Tapa That matched my skirt so I thought it was a perfect compliment for a picture or two!

It was the perfect day!  There was a lot of people out and about and a street arts market which is always cool!  My skirt was a hit and I can hardly wait to wear it again.  I felt extra sassy with it on!
As always thanks so much for stopping by!
Have a great week!

Boiling Crawfish!

Hi Dolls,

My girls and I decided it was time for a ladies night and we decided to go for something where we could get down and dirty with the food.  At Boiling Crawfish that is exactly what you can do!  Located in the Marshall's shopping plaza off of Normandy, Boiling Crawfish is clearly the spot to be on a Friday or Saturday night as you can see by the line coming out of the door!
My only complaint was that I noticed on the menu that while their prices are relatively yet understandably high, they charge an additional 12% just for dining in their restaurant.  That makes absolutely NO sense to me.  Some of us felt some type of way about it but we stayed anyways because we were looking forward to trying the food.  I'm glad we did because it was amazing!
One of my friends got the crawfish tray that came with your typical country boil corn, potatoes, and sausage.  It was also loaded with shrimp and crawfish and a buttery sauce that had all of us licking our fingers!
The rest of us got the crab leg trays with the same fixings, sausage, potato, and corn.  It was seasoned perfectly!  I didn't particularly like that the shrimp weren't deveined but I let it slide and did it myself.  You have the option to get a mild, hot, and super hot seasoning.  Although I love spicy food, I wanted to really enjoy this so I went with mild.  What really sets of the tray is the BC sauce that they cover your dish with!  It's buttery deliciousness!

To cap off the night, we ordered drinks and overall, our ladies night at Boiling Crawfish was finger licking good.  Although I didn't like getting charged to dine in their establishment, I'll probably go back.
As always, thanks for stopping by!
