A Dress as a Blouse!

Hi Dolls,

I am in a pretty good mood and there's nothing anyone can do about it!  Isn't that a great way to be?  I just came back from Paris (scratching that off my bucket list) and I was blessed to be able to visit, all expenses paid.  If that's not a reason to be grateful, I don't know what is.  I'll be sharing details from my trip with you all in the near future but in the meantime, this top I'm wearing in this outfit, is actually a dress that I bought in Paris!
I bought the dress at a market so there was no trying it on.  I was so in love with the print and the collar that I was determined to make it work somehow, if it didn't fit the way I liked.  Well, as a dress, it wasn't very flattering so I added this pencil skirt and voila!  Instant outfit!  I love when that happens!

Top:  French Market
Skirt:  Zara
Heels:  TJ Maxx
What are you favorite outfit hacks?  Sometimes, I'll wear a dress and add a different top to it to make it look like a skirt!  There's so many things you can do to make an outfit work for ya!
As always, thanks so much for stopping by!
Have a great week!

Healthy "Fast-Food"...an Oxymoron? Not at Flame Broiler!

Hi Dolls,

I have really been trying to stick to my New Year fitness goals and to be honest, the working out part of it is easy....it's the eating that always gets me!  So in an effort not to sabotage my hour of hard work in the gym last weekend, my boyfriend and I decided to have lunch at one of my favorite healthy, fast food restaurants, Flame Broiler !
Yes, I said "healthy fast-food"!  It does exist, let me explain!
A few years ago, this west coast franchise made its way to Jacksonville and has been bringing us the perfect after work-out food ever since!   So what makes them such a great choice after a workout, you ask???  Well, their healthy choice menu includes dishes free of trans fat, dairy, frying, and skin-on meat!  You can even watch them prepare the food behind the counter and sure enough, there are no fryers, as everything is prepared on top of a flat hot grill!
The menu is pretty simplistic with your choice of chicken, steak, or tofu for protein and veggies, consisting of cabbage, broccoli, and carrots.  You also have a choice of brown or white rice and chopped green onions to top your meal, if you'd like.  Always get the green onions!  They add incredible flavor!  Depending on how hungry you are, you have the size options of mini, bowl, and plate.

My boyfriend, who always has a big appetite, got the plate size with half chicken/half beef and veggies over brown rice.
With the plate size being the option with the most food, it also came with red cabbage salad and orange slices.
I got the same protein in the bowl size!  The only difference is that the orange slices and cabbage salad aren't there.  You wouldn't miss it because that little bowl is packed with food!  I actually couldn't finish it all in one sitting.
The name Flame Broiler is totally appropriate for this restaurant because the meat has a nice flame-broiled flavor!  Although the meat is tender and nicely charbroiled with a great taste, the sauces are not to be skipped!  The magic sauce is my favorite!  It's tastes like a combination of soy sauce and teriyaki sauce!  We both doused our plates with it as it added an incredible amount of flavor!  Hot sauce, sesame dressing, and Hot-Hot sauce if you're feeling froggy, are also available!
If you're on a complete health kick, Flame Broiler now serves tofu.  I'm not a fan but I know plenty of people who are!  I sampled it and the flame-broiled flavor is definitely there.  I just can't get with the texture. It's nice to know they have this option though.
You can also request all white meat chicken.  If you're watching your calories, this option gives you all the same, great flavor with 20 less calories!
I had the opportunity to speak with Jackie, the owner of all 3 of the Jacksonville locations, and she was super friendly and informative about their dishes.  She told me they also cater events.  So the next time you're in charge of lunch for the entire office, give her a call!
My boyfriend and I were very pleased with our meal.  Our morning workout wasn't compromised and I even had a little left over to snack on later that day.  For everyone who is trying to stay true to your "stay fit" New Year resolutions, Flame Broiler will make it a little easier!  You can still maintain that girlish figure with out skipping out on flavorful food!
As always, thanks so much for stopping by!  Have a great weekend!

Jack on The Rocks!

Hi Dolls,

The one thing that has always held true for this city that I'm slowly (but surely) growing to love, is the food and drink scene!  Hence, the thing that fuels my love for blogging!  What's even better is when those two things bring about events that connect you to people and movements who are for the betterment of our communities!  This is what happened last night at the inaugural "Jack on The Rocks" pop up happy hour.  Before I get into the happy hour, I have to take a moment to shout out the super talented Malcolm Jackson, a local Jacksonville photographer in the picture below!  He's on this month's cover of Jack magazine and rightfully so, as his work is phenomenal!  He "captures the beauty and power of everyday life"  specifically in the urban core communities and uses it to inspire.  I think his work is amazing!  Check him out here!
Now about the event, every other month, Jack (About Jax) magazine will be hosting a happy hour at one of the urban core's best bars and restaurants.  The happy hour will feature 1 complimentary drink and a featured appetizer along with great happy hour prices!  This first Jack on The Rocks was at none other than the fabulous  Il Desco!  The specialty cocktail was the Jack and Jill!
It was made with Jack Daniels, of course, Aperol spritz, bitters, a little lemon juice, Foro Amaro liquer, and turbinado!  Seriously perfection!
I am so glad my friend Nate invited me out to this!  I brought a co-worker along with me and it was the perfect after work happy hour!  Something we certainly needed after a long day at work!  We had an awesome time and I can't wait until the next Jack On the Rocks event!  I have a sneaky suspicion it will be at Black Sheep in April (wink* wink*)  To keep up with dates and locations, check out there website here.  As always, thanks so much for stopping by!

Vintage Vibes

Hi Dolls,

The weather in North Florida is always so unpredictable! One day it's freezing and the next day I'm wearing this dress with the shoulders out!  Gotta love it!  I'm over the cold weather already so honestly, I'm not complaining. I'm only good for winter until Christmas ends then I'm looking for the constant sunshine!  But let's get to this dress!  I received it, compliments of eshakti and I'm loving the bold, bright colors and cold shoulders!
I've partnered with eShakti before, a while ago (here), so when they contacted me again to sample some of their clothes, I jumped right on it!  eShakti is the only online women's fashion apparel company offering size 0-36W with a plethora of styling options and customizable clothing.  They provide sizing charts and give you te option to customize features such a dress and sleeve lengths!  So if a maxi of this dress is what you'd prefer, they would happily oblige.  I love this about them!
For my dress, I decided to stick with midi length and it was the cutest, most demure look!  The laced bodice gave me all sorts of vintage vibes.  I don't have anything quite like it in my wardrobe.  Oh, and did I tell you my dress has pockets!  If you're anything like me, pockets, in a dress, are a big deal!  Don't ask me why, they just are lol!
If you're not into pockets, we need to have a serious talk!  Just kidding, but if you prefer not to have pockets, that is something else you can customize out of your apparel.
There were soooo many things I liked so it was pretty hard deciding on something but I am happy with my dress!  I'm looking forward to wearing it plenty more in the warmer months with strappy sandals and a floppy hat!  I can see it already!
I'll be ordering from eshakti again soon and of course, you should too!
As always, thanks for stopping by!

What's Cooking with Trice: BBQ Pulled Pork Nachos w/ Homemade Sweet Potato Chips

Hi Dolls,

Now that football season has come to a close, basketball season is in full swing! One of my favorite things to do with my boyfriend during basketball season, besides brag about how much better my Spurs are to his Lakers, is prepare a spread of good eats together to keep our bellies full in between free throws.
Romantic right!?!?   You all know I love quick and easy dishes that don't skimp in the flavor department so I've partnered with Curly's BBQ to bring you a delicious game day recipe you can fix in no time!  I've got a little sumthin' sumthin' that will totally put those go-to nachos to shame!
BBQ Pulled Pork Nachos with Homemade Sweet Potato Chips!  Yep, that's right!  Homemade...Sweet...Potato...Chips!
Here's what you'll need!

-Curly's BBQ Hickory Smoked Pulled Pork
-2 Medium sized Sweet Potatoes (thinly sliced)
-1/4 red onion (chopped)
-4 scallions (chopped)
-1 tomato (chopped)
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
EV olive oil
1/2 cup of sour cream

1.)  Preheat oven to 350.
2.) Using a mandolin or a super sharp knife, thinly slice your sweet potatoes with the skin on.  The thinner you slice the potatoes, the crispier the chips will be.
3.)  In a large bowl, toss potato slices with 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil and your favorite seasonings.  I used salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
4.)  Spread your potato slices out evenly on a cookie sheet.  You'll more than likely have to do 2 or 3 batches depending on the size of your cookie sheet.
5.)  Bake for 10 minutes.  Take out and flip over the chips then bake another 7-8 minutes.
If your chips are really thin, keep a closer eye on them so they don't burn.
6.)  While the chips bake, heat your Curly's BBQ Hickory Smoked Pulled Pork in the microwave for about 3 minutes and chop your onion, tomato, and scallions.

6.)  Once your chips are done, add them to an oven safe dish and start layering your sweet potato nachos!
7.) Start with Curly's BBQ pulled pork and then add the shredded cheddar cheese.
8.)  Begin on the next layer in the same order:  sweet potato chips, BBQ, and cheese.
You can pile it up as high as you want!
9.) Once you've stacked your chips, put it back in the oven under the broiler for about 30 secs. or until you see the cheese has fully melted.
10.)  Take out the dish and add several dollops of sour cream, chopped tomatoes, onions, and scallions.  For an extra kick, add chopped jalapenos!
Then voila, you are ready to indulge in this fancy spin on nachos!  The sweet potato chips and BBQ pulled pork are divine together!  You'll never want to make those same ole' nachos again.
Curly's has some of the best, authentic, hickory smoked BBQ available, that is always pulled and never shredded for true restaurant quality.  They use the best cuts of meat, have absolutely no filler, and best of all can be found in the refrigerated meat case of your local grocery stores!
I'm excited to partner with them and as an added bonus, will be participating in the Curly's BBQ Showdown where my recipe will go up against other Curly's BBQ recipes across the country!  I am so proud of my pulled pork nachos and want them to get all the love.  When you try this recipe you're going to want to send me virtual hugs because this dish is that good!
Click here to vote for my recipe and read more about the showdown and by voting you'll be entered in for a chance to win a trip for two to Phoenix for the game on April 3rd!  For my fellow basketball lovers, that is an opportunity you can't pass on!
As always, thanks so much for stopping by and good luck!

What's Cooking with Trice: Korean Style Beef

Hi Dolls,

When I was a little girl, my mom would make my brother and I
a dish that we affectionately named "G-food" (inside joke) and though it was the simplest dish, it was one of our favorite things to eat!  It was ground beef over a bed of rice.  Yep, that's it!  There was nothing to it what so ever but we were all smiles whenever we saw it on our dinner plates.  As an adult my palate has matured a bit.   I love Korean bulgogi (BBQ) which is a savory dish made with thin, deliciously marinated, slices of grilled sirloin over a bed of rice so I decided to marry two of my favs, from childhood and adulthood, to make a quicker, easier, and more budget-friendly version! Korean-Style Beef!  It's amazing how much flavor a few ingredients will add to an already delicious dish!
Here's all you need!
1 lb. Organic Ground Chuck (or Ground Turkey)
1/4-1/2 cup of brown sugar (dependind on sweetness preference)
1 TSP of Sesame Oil
1/4 cup low-sodium Soy Sauce
2 cloves garlic, chopped
2 tsp ginger, minced
2 sprigs of green onions, chopped
1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
Cooked rice
1.)  Heat sesame oil in a large skillet over medium heat.  Add garlic and cook it for about a minute.  You should be able to smell the garlic as it cooks but make sure not to burn it.

2.)  Add ground chuck and cook it until it browns, around 3-4 minutes.  Crumble meat then drain off the excess fat.
3.)  Once meat is browned and fat is drained, stir in the ginger, soy sauce, brown sugar, and red pepper flakes until everything is well combined.  Let it simmer a few minutes.

4.)  Serve over a bed of rice and garnish with green onion and a few more sprinkles of red pepper flakes if desired.  You could even add sesame seeds if you have them on hand!
That's all there is to it!  If you're busy throughout the week, you'll definitely want to add this to your weekly rotation at home.  It's quick, it's easy, and it's so full of flavor!  You and your family will love it!
Thanks so much for stopping by!  Have a great weekend!

The Gridiron Cooking Challenge

Hi Dolls,

Raise your hands if you've been sticking to those "New Year, New Me" healthier eating, New Year resolutions???  As for me, I've definitely been making more of a conscious effort to keep myself accountable!  I have to admit, sometimes it can get a little difficult to focus on always eating healthy so I can only imagine how much of a chore it could be to a child.
That's where the Gridiron Cooking Challenge comes in handy!!!
This is a fun and light-hearted cooking competition for elementary and middle school students throughout the state of Florida!  It showcases healthy, original, student-created recipes that prominently include dairy products.
This initiative, which is designed and supported by the Florida Dairy Farmers, is a part of Fuel Up to Play 60, an in-school nutrition and physical activity program launched by the National Dairy Council and the NFL to help encourage today's youth to lead healthier lives!
Now, I've seen those kid cooking competitions on TV and let me tell you...some of these kids can run circles around the average adult in the kitchen any day of the week!

Check out what the competition entails below!
I think it would be tons of fun!  If I were teaching at the elementary or middle school level, I'd totally get my students involved!  As an educator, I can truly appreciate this initiative.  Not only does it give children a fun way to adapt healthier food choices by allowing them to create it themselves, but it also helps provide our schools with equipment that enhances the learning process, something that is always needed and greatly appreciated.
If you have young ones who enjoy cooking, I encourage you to enter them into this competition!  The deadline for submissions is March 3, 2017.  For entry forms, click here and as always thanks so much for stopping by!
