Hey Dolls,
It’s been quite a while since my last recipe post. I tend to do a lot more experimenting in the kitchen during the summer because I have more time on my hands. Last night I made my version of baked ziti. This was my first time making it and I just went off of what I thought would be good in it. In other words, I had no recipe…but it turned out delicious!
Here’s what you’ll need:
Ground Turkey/ Smoked Turkey Sausage/ Yellow Onion/ Marinara Sauce/ Ziti Noodles/ Spinach/ Corn Kernels/ Mozzarella Cheese/ Garlic/ Seasoning of Choice
DIRECTIONS:
1.) Chop 1/2 onion and 2 garlic cloves, drizzle a little Extra virgin olive oil in a hot skillet and saute your onion and garlic with a chopped smoked sausage link. Season then add ground turkey and cook through.
While the meat cooks, boil your ziti noodles until al dente (Approximately 7-8 minutes). I should’ve added a little oil or butter because my noodles stuck together after I drained the water off.
2.) After your meat is cooked, add marinara sauce and 2 handfuls of baby spinach leaves. I have grown to really LOVE baby spinach leaves! They add so much flavor to a dish. This may look like a lot, but the spinach wilts quite a bit as it cooks.
3.) Once the spinach wilts down, stir in 1 cup of frozen corn kernels and mix everything well.
4.) Once everything is combined, prepare your ziti to be baked. I added the meat and veggies in the baking dish first then a layer of cheese, then noodles, another layer of meat and veggies, and so forth. I repeated until everything was plated.
5.) Afterwards, I topped of the ziti off with the rest of the cheese I had left. Next time I will need to use two bags of cheese because as you can see, I ran out.
6.) Bake for about 10-15 minutes or until the cheese is melted. You can see here that my cheese was a little bit sparse.
That’s quite alright because it turned out delicious!!!
Please try this! I’m telling you, ground turkey has so much more flavor than ground beef! I was pleased with how flavorful this dish turned out! If you try it, let me know how it was for you!
Have a FAB day!
