Facing My Fashion Fears

Hi Dolls,

I’m pretty sure we all can agree that there have been times when you had a fun outfit styled in your mind but when it actually came time to wear it, you chickened out and went with something “safe”.  It has happened to me more times than I can remember.  I think we let our insecurities get in the way of rocking a fabulous look for various reason be it size, height, or whatever! Sometimes social media and constant distractions on television distort our views of style appropriation and we find ourselves comparing our bodies to celebrities, models, and the random strangers we follow on Instagram.  The beautiful thing about fashion and personal style is that they have no boundaries.  I think you should always wear what makes you feel good!   Who cares if Joe Blow doesn’t like it.  It’s your relationship with style and when you feel good about what you’re wearing, it shows.

Today for “Try Day, Friday”  I’ve participating in an initiative created by Dia & Co.   They are a curated shopping experience, delivered to your doorstep, exclusively in sizes 14 and up.  “Try Day, Friday” was created to encourage us to face a fashion fear by stepping out of the box and today I styled an outfit that I typically wouldn’t wear.

I will say that since I became a blogger years ago, I have gotten a lot bolder and comfortable with the the articles of clothing I choose to rock!  I wear things now that I never would have thought twice about before.  I’m grateful that blogging has taken me outside of the norm in that realm.

So about this look….

I use to be extremely hesitant about wearing mixed prints in fear of looking tacky.  I always kept it safe and super matchy-matchy.  I also shied away from wearing huge prints, especially floral ones in fear that they would make me look bigger than I am.  Don’t know what on Earth gave me that notion but those were my reasons.

I was in Chicago visiting for a few days last week and decided to rock this look one day!  I won’t lie…at first I wasn’t sure if the gingham and floral would work together but they totally did!  I received tons of compliments walking down the streets of Chi-town!  I added a sassy wide belt and cute accessories and  my look was complete.

SIDENOTE:  When in Chicago, it is only right you visit Garrett Popcorn!  If you’re a nut lover like me, you’ll love the nut crisp popcorn!  I will be doing another post soon, detailing the fun ins and outs of my short visit to the Chi.  I love that place.

So back to the topic at hand.  It’s always fun to try new things and I enjoyed stepping out of the box with my look!

I may just do a Try-Day Friday every week with something I wouldn’t normally wear.  I don’t mind seeing my personal style evolve into something more eclectic!
