Bahama Breeze Rumtoberfest 2017

Hi Dolls,

Oktoberfest is this month and folks are getting their bellies ready for insurmountable amounts of beer but like I’ve said before (here), “it’s more fun when you’re having rum”, at Rumtoberfest!
Bahama Breeze is celebrating their 5th annual Rum celebration to commemorate the Caribbean’s love for rum!  It’s a celebration of all things rum, and I joined in on the fun!  This year there’s even more ways to sip and well….eat rum!  As a matter of fact, because I had a hard time choosing one rum cocktail, I got a flight with three!  Don’t you dare judge!

I ordered the Higgla’s Happy Juice!
Before I get into the drinks, the teacher in me has to educate you, a little, on what “Higgla” means!  Island street vendors like to haggle and I can vouch for this as I’ve been privy to it during my past island vacations.  So higgla (hig-la) is a little Island slang for a haggler or salesperson.  However, if you like rum and fruity drinks, I won’t have to do much to sale you on this tropical rum flight!

So here’s what you get with the Higgla’s Happy Juice in the order pictured:

Shipwrecked:  This drink had a nice earthy vibe to it!  It was made with Captain Morgan Spiced Rum, Cruzan Coconut Rum, bitters, and tropical fruit.

Tradewinds:  This was my favorite of the flight!  It’s made with Cruzan aged rums, aprico brandy, coconut and lime juice.

Bahama Mama:  It’s hard to go wrong with this classic!  It’s made with Cruzan Coconut, Bacardi Black and Castillo Silver Rums, Leroux Banana Liquer, pineapple and orange juice.

New this year for Rumtoberfest is also the Rum Raid!  This is an ultimate flight featuring 8 rum-filled elixirs inspired by the Caribbean!  Since my boyfriend wasn’t indulging in the rum cocktails this evening I didn’t want to be a complete lush so I stuck to the Higgla’s Happy Juice.  I think three drinks is a good limit!

No matter what I’m at Bahama Breeze for, Coconut Shrimp is a must order, every single time!  It is easily one of my favorite menu items at Bahama Breeze.  The citrusy mustard sauce compliments the coco-nutty shrimp, perfectly!  We always demolish these babies in 2 minutes or under!

In honor of Rumtoberfest, I had to order the Rum and Coke Chicken and Ribs!  Both are glazed with Bahama Breeze’s rum and coke BBQ sauce and served with griddled mac and cheese, grilled corn on the cob, and jimaca cole slaw (which I substituted with mashed potatoes).  I liked everything except for the griddled mac and cheese.  They were pretty bland.  The tender ribs and chicken made up for it though!  The ribs were literally falling off of the bone!

My guy ordered one of my favorites from Bahama Breeze!  The grilled chicken with cilantro-crema.  This dish is so flavorful and comes with mashed potatoes, roasted corn, topped with a blend of three cheeses and drizzle of cilantro crema!  It’s is so good!  I have participated in Rumtoberfest at Bahama Breeze for the last 3 years or so and each year gets better and better!  Bahama Breeze is just lots of fun anyways!  I always enjoy sitting on the patio to enjoy live reggae music and entertainment.

So, now that summer has come to a close, fall is all about connecting with loved ones as the holidays approach!  This is my favorite time of year!  Bahama Breeze is making it easy to let loved ones know you’re thinking of them through a limited-time partnership with the Ink Card app (here)!  To celebrate Rumtoberfest, Bahama Breeze designed a capsule collection of ink cards which are now available!  I created this one and sent it to my family in Texas and now my fabulous readers can do the same!
