2017 was GOOD, 2018 will be GREAT!

It’s that time of year again where everyone starts to reflect and set goals for themselves and guess what, I am right there with them!  According to the dictionary, a resolution is a firm decision to do or not do something. I prefer terms like goals and aspirations because I’m a work in progress.  At the end of 2016, I was in a weird and uncertain space.   Although I was doing a lot, I wanted to do more.  I wanted to accomplish more, I wanted to experience more. I wanted more fulfillment in different areas of my life.  I made a list of goals for myself and a list of things I wanted to aspire towards and I’m happy to say that in 2017 I was able to accomplish several of those things.  It has been a very fulfilling year for me and has created a drive in me for so much more!  I am in a much better space at the end of this year than I was at the end of last year and I’m proud to say it’s because of things I did myself, to change it!   Here are a few goals I’m reaching for in the new year.

“If you can change your mind, you can change your life.”

1.) This is so true.  I’ve heard so many times that the mind is a powerful thing.  We have to be careful of what we allow to penetrate it and we have to be careful of what we tell ourselves.  One thing that I want to do more of is self affirmations.  It’s so easy to be negative yet being negative is so powerful.  Think about the news for example.  You’re more inclined to remember a horrible story than you are a pleasant one.  Right!?! So it is my goal to stop saying things that start with “I’ll never…”  or “I can’t…”!  There will be a lot more “I am…” “I can…” and “I will…”, when speaking of myself.  Although I’m the type of person who likes to look for the light at the end of the tunnel, I’ve found that I look for that light more in others.  I going to be more loving and positive to ME.  I will continue to affirm my own greatness and shine my own light a little brighter.

“What’s meant for you will never miss you, and that which misses you was never meant for you.”

2.) It’s so funny listening to the different lingos and catch phrases that emerge every year.  Being a high school teacher allows me to hear all the new slang right off the press!  But in all seriousness, one of the new (and maybe not even that new) phrases that I’ve been hearing a lot of this year is a derivative of “Staying in ones own lane.”  As an influencer, blogger, and someone who has a presence on social media, it is so easy to get caught up in what this and that person is doing, receiving, or accomplishing before you.  I won’t even lie,  it use to bother me that after as long as I’ve been blogging, why my blogging dreams and aspirations haven’t come to fruition yet.  When I decided to start “staying in my own lane”, and focusing on my brand, what I love, and staying true to me, I noticed that the blessings started coming down.  I mentioned in a previous post that the only competition I have is MYSELF and being better than I was the day before.  What’s meant for me is for me and if it isn’t I won’t worry about it. I truly believe that God will give me the desires of my heart both in my career, personal and social life.  It’s natural and in my opinion perfectly fine to want more.  However, I have to continue to creatively seek ways to hear from Him and pay more attention to the blessings he places right in front of my nose.

“Style is a way to say who you are without having to speak.”

3.)  When I think about my style evolution from when I was a young girl, through middle and high school, through college, from the beginning of my blog, to now, it’s been quite the whirlwind.  I remember when I hated wearing dresses.  Love them now.  I remember when platforms were my thing.  Give me a stiletto now.  Do you remember Cross Colours?  Oh the evolution of style!  I’ve always admired those who have the confidence to be bold in their style.  I’ve mentioned before that blogging has taken me out of my comfort zone and has awakened more creativity in me.

My goal is to kick my style up a notch.  There are so many looks I create in my mind but when it comes time to get dressed, I tend to play it safe.  But safe for who?  I’m going to step out on the fashion ledge a little more this year!  Stay tuned!

“Food is the ingredient that binds us together.”

4.)  One of the things I adore about my baby, High Heels and Good Meals, is that it’s about fashion and food!  I’m so grateful for the relationships I’ve built and friendships I’ve gained because of blogging.  I’ve met people from all over the country and food has definitely been the catalyst!  I’m looking forward to cooking more and visiting more amazing restaurants in the new year.  Though I consider myself to be a foodie, there are so many different cuisines I’ve yet to try!  I’ll be doing a little more traveling in the name of food in 2018 so be on the look out for that!  Just to preface, it’s going to make you hungry!

“Every day (and every year) is a

new opportunity to become the person you want to be.”

Sidenote:  If you’re reading this and just want to know where I got this really cute faux fur utility jacket, I got you babe! (here)

5.)  In my most sultry Adele voice this is me saying “Hello” to 2018!  I’m speaking greater opportunities, more creativity, seamless, loving, and supportive relationships, and abundance in every aspect of my life!  I know what I want and have to go and get it!

2018, I’m coming for you baby!

If you’re still here rocking with me, I love you!  Thanks for the continued support.  You all just don’t know how much it means to me!  As always thank you for stopping by and may your New Year be filled with love, joy, and all the opportunities you seek!

XOXO
