Hi Loves and Happy New Year!
I’m happy to share this experience with you, as my first post for 2018. I recently met with this amazing young lady, Megan, at one of our local Publix grocery stores. She is an athlete with the Special Olympics, Florida and she absolutely blew me away with all of the things she has accomplished as an athlete. During our morning together, she showed me her scrap book of all the different events she’s competed in, we had a little girl chat, and she educated me on the Special Olympics organization itself. She totally made my morning!

So first, I have to brag on Megan for a sec! She’s got quite an impressive resume! She’s been involved with the Special Olympics for 9 years and has competed in a plethora of events including track and field, bowling, dancing, equestrian, surfing, you name it! She was happy to inform me of how healthy and fit she’s gotten since becoming a Special Olympics athlete.
She was also very down to Earth, funny, and sassy! She told me all about her boo-thang’ and life as a working young adult living with a roommate. When she told me she likes dancing, I had to do a little shimmey with her for the ‘gram! Needless to say, she totally out shimmied me! If you don’t believe me, check out my latest Instagram Story (here) and see for yourself.
Of course I have to share a little information about the Special Olympics with you! They offer life-changing opportunities for children and adults with intellectual disabilities to learn new skills, build confidence and achieve their fullest potential through sports training and competition. I can say first hand that they are doing an amazing job! The school I work at, hosts Special Olympics events often and I also have friends who have children with disabilities who speak highly of the organization.
“Our athletes are able to achieve greatness on and off the playing field.” ~ Sherry Wheelock ( Special Olympics Fl Chief Exec. Officer)
Publix has been a partner of Special Olympics for 45 years and are currently doing the #LightTheTorch campaign. From January 4 through 20th, Publix customers and associates will be able to make a donation to Special Olympics Florida at the register and in turn will receive a special Torch Icon that includes exclusive savings on Proctor & Gamble brands. I believe any donation would help support the vision of such and honorable organization. I truly enjoyed spending time with Megan and learning more about the Special Olympics. She really warmed my heart and I feel blessed to have spent our short time together. The Special Olympics is doing amazing things and if you would like to learn more about them and the 2018 #LightTheTorch Publix campaign, please visit https://promotionpg.com/special-olympics for more information.
As always, have an amazing day and thank you for stopping by!
