Grub Burger Bar

Hi Dolls!  So, I think I have found my new favorite burger joint!  Grub Burger Bar recently opened at the St. John’s Town Center and I had the opportunity to stop in, learn a bit about it, and of course, sample some of the favorites off of the menu!  Between the more than reasonable prices and the outstanding flavors, I am an instant fan!  Learning the history and mission of the restaurant also helped in my fandom!  I learned that Grub Burger Bar takes pride in creating food and experiences that are simple, basic, yet extraordinary.  All around the restaurant you’ll find motivational writings on the wall.  It’s a goal of theirs to help motivate people to achieve their dreams.  If you notice the “You Do You”  painting on the wall?  It was done by a “Grubster”, a term of endearment used for team members, and for that person, they “achieved a dream by finally getting their art work up in a public space.”  I thought that was pretty cool.  The “You Do You” also means that staff and guests should have a happy experience when dining with Grub.  Everything you order is customizable and you can honestly tell that the employees are happy working there just by the way they interacted with guests.  I love the look and feel of the restaurant.  It was very chic and and contemporary with the floor to ceiling windows, exposed ceilings, and cool lighting.  It’s very open and inviting.  The decor definitely exceeded my expectations as did all of the menu items we sampled!

THE APPS

I have to mention that just about everything is made in house, from the bread down to the secret sauces.  They also taste check flavors twice a day to ensure we’re getting quality food!  While we were there we sampled a few of the appetizers but didn’t want to fill up on them.  To save room for burgers and shakes, we got a couple of light starters.

Seared Ahi Tuna

Betcha never thought this would be on the menu at a burger bar…it is!  It was pretty tasty too and perfectly light to start off our meal!

Brussel Sprouts

It’s funny how I didn’t want anything to do with brussel sprouts as a kid because as an adult, I absolutely love them.  Gotta appreciate the evolution of the adult tastebuds!  These were roasted and tossed in an ancho lime vinaigrette and topped with queso fresco.  They were made perfectly.  It had a nice crunch and savory yet sweet flavor.

As if I didn’t already love this place based on ambiance and prices alone, they have shakes I can actually indulge in with out feeling horrible afterwards.  Their shakes come either handspun, crafted, or spiked (adult) and here’s the best part….they are lactose-free!!!!  No bubbles around these parts! They taste amazing too!  We can also look forward to shakes of the month in the near future to keep us on our toes!  I love it when eateries, switch up flavors.

Kitchen Sink Shake

In true foodie fashion we got the two craziest shakes on the menu!  This one was my favorite and it literally did come with the everything but the kitchen sink.  It reminded me of the Take Five candy bar.  It was made with pretzels, peanut butter, salt, butterscotch sauce, caramel sauce. chocolate chips, coffee grounds, and potato chips!  Seriously amazeballs!

Worms In Dirt

I know kids are going to get a kick out of this shake!  Made with Oreo ice cream and topped with gummy worms, it looks kid friendly and it tastes great too!

~THE BURGERS & SANDWICHES~

Blazin’ Fried Chicken Sandwich

You can just look at this sandwich and see its was full of flavor!  It was made with crispy fried chicken that has been smothered in their in-house made blazin’ hot sauce, pickle aioli, pickles, and red cabbage slaw.  It had a kick to it but I like it spicy so it totally worked for me.  The fried chicken was the furthest thing from bland so this sandwich packed a flavorful punch!

Bacon Love #9 w/ Fries

This will probably be a go to burger for me because I love a good bacon cheeseburger!  It’s made with Applewood smoked bacon, American cheese, pickles, lettuce, tomato, and secret sauce #9.  If you’re wondering what the 9 is for, it took 9 tries to figure out the perfect secret sauce!  I’m glad they finally got it right because it’s good!

California Chicken Sandwich

This is an ideal sandwich for when you’re not in the mood for a burger.  It was made with grilled chicken breast, bacon, Swiss cheese, avocados, sprouts, and a chipotle aioli on a wheat bun!  It is the perfect lighter option.

Mac ‘N’ Cheeseburger

I mean do I really need to tell you how crazy this burger was!?!  It’s a mac n cheese lovers dream (so you know, it wasn’t for me).  It was oozing with cheesy goodness; mac n cheese, cheese sauce, and bacon pieces.

Voo Doo Mushroom

I can’t believe I’m about to say this but this was probably my favorite burger!  I remember the day I hated mushrooms but I’m so happy my tastebuds have evolved because this burger was fire!  It is loaded with mushrooms that were sauteed in Absinthe!   If you’re not familiar with Absinthe, it is a liquor that has a strong anise flavor but it added a very nice touch to the mushrooms.  The Swiss cheese and Tabasco mayo made this burger unbelievably delicious!

Hippie Chickpea

I was happy to see that they had vegetarian options on the menu.  All of the sandwiches and burgers can be made vegetarian just FYI! This was a meatless burger made with ground chickpeas, cucumber avocado dressing, arugula, cucumber slices, pickled red onions and queso fresco served on a wheat bun.  I love meat but I will have to admit that this sandwich was pretty tasty.

Jive Turkey

Another great lean protein option!  The turkey is ground and seasoned in house with pesto and is topped with bacon, Swiss cheese, sprouts, avocado, and chipotle aioli on a wheat bun!  I love that the turkey was moist and flavorful!  You don’t always get that with turkey burgers.

Scorpion Burger

Last but certainly not least is the burger for those who love heat!  It’s made with Pepper Jack cheese, Trinidad Moruga, scorpion sauce, grilled jalepenos, lettuce and tomato, with a garnish of a pickled habenero.  If you want your tongue to be on literal fire, you can try this burger “Inferno style”!  You have the option of adding an ice cream chaser for a buck if you think you won’t be able to tough it out!

Grub Burger Bar gets an A++ from me!  The service was amazing and the food and drinks exceeded my expectations.  As I mentioned before this is probably going to be my new go-to spot for burgers!

Which item would you want to try first?
